DNS Management of the Painful Shoulder -

Appropriate Exercise Choice

Objectives:

Instructor Bio:

Petra graduated with a Master’s degree from the Department of Physical Therapy at Palacky University in Olomouc in 1998. She achieved her Ph.D. in Kinanthropology with a focus on Biomechanics in 2001. Her main interest is biomechanics and the kinematic analysis of gait. 

Since 2002 Petra worked as a physical therapist at the Rehabilitation and Sport Medicine Department at the Motol University Hospital in Prague. 

Petra is a university teacher of physical therapy at the Charles’ University Medical School. Her lectures include Sports Medicine, Biomechanics, Bobath Concept and Vojta Reflex Locomotion methods. She has also specialized in surface electromyography assessment and has published several articles regarding surface electromyographical studies.

As of October 2011, Petra became Chief physiotherapist at the Centre of Movement Medicine located in Prague (http://www.cpmpk.cz) which is one of the two private clinics owned by Professor Kolář where she oversees both departments of physical therapy since 2018.

Petra is certified in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, Vojta Reflex locomotion principle, Mobilization and Soft Tissue Techniques according to Lewit, Bobath Method for adults, Stecco Fascia Manipulation, and Dry Needling DGSA

She also completed courses in Neurodynamics according to Butler, Barral Institute method of Visceral Manipulation, and Mulligan concept.

Petra is an expert in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization and is also a certified Instructor in Developmental Kinesiology and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization since 2002. 

Her main focuses in DNS are sport medicine, running athletes, pediatrics, junior athletes, and foot problems. 

Petra has been a Fitness Step Team World Champion in 2003 and 2004, and European Champion in 2004.

Petra currently resides in Czech Republic, near Prague with her husband, daughter and son.

Objectives:

  1. Restoring Spinal Mobility in Developmental Positions.

  2. Discuss the common regions for rotational injuries.

  3. Discuss the importance of IAP regulation as a prerequisite for an elongated spine for free segmental rotation.

  4. Demonstrate selected developmental positions to train spinal mobility.

Instructor Bio:

Dr Frank was born and raised in Malaysia where she found her passion in sports. She started competing at the age of 10 and went on to win several state and national competitions in badminton. Shortly after representing Malaysia in the International Women’s Uber Cup in 1981, she left for the United States to pursue her education as a physical therapist. While at Northern Illinois University, she earned All American honors and the distinguished Broderick Award in Badminton. Her experience in competitive sports and training has set the backdrop for her keen interest in the movement system and its relationship with musculoskeletal pain syndromes,

Dr. Frank received her physical therapy degree from Northern Illinois University. She completed the Kaiser Permanente Orthopedic Residency program in 1993 while working on her Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy & Biokinesiology at University of Southern California. She then went on to receive her post-professional doctorate degree from Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, California in 2003. She is a board-certified specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) and a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (FAAOMPT). Her clinical career has been greatly influenced by Shirley Sahrmann PT, PhD, and the Prague School of Manual Medicine faculty, namely, the late Vladimir Janda MD, DSc, the late Karel Lewit MD and Pavel Kolar PT, PhD.  

Dr. Frank practices in Los Angeles, California.  She currently serves as the Program Director of Azusa Pacific University Clinical Fellowship in Movement & Performance as well as clinical instructor for the Spine Rehabilitation Fellowship at Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles. She served on the medical team for the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships held in Los Angeles, and injury prevention & rehab team for the Chinese Olympic National Training Center in Beijing, China (2010-2016).  Dr. Frank is a certified instructor for Janda’s Approach to Musculoskeletal Pain Syndromes, and Kolar's Approach to Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization.  She has presented at both state and national conferences.  She currently teaches in the U.S. and internationally and has co-authored “Assessment and Treatment of Muscle Imbalances: The Janda Approach”.
